Cygni Energy's Breakthrough in Battery Storage
Independent energy solutions leader Cygni Energy, incubated at IIT Madras and headquartered in Hyderabad, has officially commissioned the first phase of its state-of-the-art automated battery energy storage system (BESS) gigafactory. Located at the E-Mobility Valley within the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) at Maheshwaram, this facility marks a significant milestone in India's clean energy journey.

Investment and Expansion Plans
With an initial investment of Rs 100 crore, the gigafactory's first phase boasts a production capacity of 4.8GWh of high-capacity battery packs for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Cygni Energy envisions doubling this capacity by 2027, with an additional investment of Rs 150 crore in the second phase, aiming for a total capacity of 10.8 GWh.
Job Creation and Manufacturing Excellence
Venkat Rajaraman, Cygni's founder & CEO, highlighted the project's potential to create over 1,000 jobs in the next 24 months. The expansion includes adding three automated 2 GWh cell-to-pack manufacturing lines to meet the surging demand for energy storage and e-mobility solutions.
A Step Towards Sustainable Energy
The inauguration of the 1.6 lakh sq ft facility on a five-acre plot was celebrated by Jayesh Ranjan, Telangana's special chief secretary, as a transformative step towards sustainable energy and manufacturing excellence. This gigafactory is set to cater to large grid-scale stationary storage projects and independent power producers, reinforcing India's commitment to clean energy.
