TikTok to Appeal Against EU's Massive Fine
In a bold move, TikTok has announced its plan to appeal a staggering €530 million fine imposed by Ireland's privacy regulator, acting on behalf of the EU. The social media giant firmly denies any wrongdoing, particularly the allegation of transferring European user data to Chinese authorities.
Christine Grahn from TikTok Europe stated, "We have never provided European user data to them. We fundamentally disagree with this decision and are prepared to challenge it in its entirety."
The Heart of the Controversy
The Irish Data Protection Commission accused TikTok of violating the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by mishandling data transfers outside Europe. This fine marks one of the most significant penalties under GDPR, spotlighting the ongoing tensions between global tech companies and EU privacy laws.
