Major Sportswear Giants Nike and Adidas Plead for Exemption from Trump's Tariffs

Sportswear Brands Seek Tariff Relief from Trump Administration

A coalition of 76 leading clothing and footwear brands, including industry heavyweights Nike Inc., Adidas AG, Skechers Inc., and Under Armour Inc., has reached out to President Donald Trump, requesting an exemption from the recently imposed tariffs. This plea was conveyed through the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America, highlighting the significant impact these tariffs have on their operations.

The Ripple Effect of Tariffs on the Footwear Industry

The brands emphasized that the tariffs, particularly those affecting imports from China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, are placing an unsustainable burden on their businesses. "The reality is stark for many companies that cater to lower and middle-income families with affordable footwear options. The exorbitant tariff rates are untenable, leaving no room for absorption or cost pass-through," the letter articulated. Without swift governmental intervention, the letter warns of inevitable closures within the sector.
