India Aims for 100 GW Wind Power by 2030: A Leap Towards Clean Energy and Economic Growth

India's Wind Energy Sector on the Rise

India's wind energy sector is making significant strides towards achieving the ambitious target of 100 GW of installed wind power capacity by 2030. With over 50 GW already in place, the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) highlights the sector's commitment to technology innovation, manufacturing capacity, and workforce development.

Manufacturing and Employment Opportunities

India's domestic manufacturing capacity for wind turbines and components exceeds 18 GW annually, with major companies like Suzlon, Nordex, and Siemens Gamesa leading the charge. This robust ecosystem not only meets domestic demand but also positions India as a potential global export hub for wind energy equipment.

Wind Energy: A Catalyst for Job Creation

The renewable sector, particularly wind energy, is expected to see a 19% growth in hiring in FY25. With over 55% of the workforce aged between 26 and 35, the sector offers promising opportunities for young professionals in India's clean energy economy.

Ensuring Grid Stability with Wind Power

As the world’s fourth-largest renewable energy producer, India recognizes wind power's role in ensuring grid stability. Its ability to generate power during non-solar hours makes it indispensable for delivering reliable, round-the-clock clean electricity at affordable rates.

Policy Support for Unlocking Potential

IWTMA calls for continued policy support, simplified regulations, and enhanced infrastructure to fully realize the wind energy sector's potential. "Wind energy is not just clean energy, it's a national economic driver," says Aditya Pyasi, CEO of IWTMA.
