Massive Job Cuts Announced in Barcelona
The Workers Commissions in Spain (CCOO) have announced a significant blow to the job market in Barcelona. Over 2,000 content moderators for Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, are facing layoffs. This drastic measure comes after Telus International, the Canadian company tasked with content moderation, lost its contract with Meta.

Behind the Layoffs: The End of an Agreement
Telus International, operating in Spain under the name CCC Barcelona Digital Services since 2018, has formally presented a dismissal plan affecting 2,059 workers. The union has revealed that this decision is a direct consequence of the termination of the agreement between Telus and Meta, the tech giant behind some of the world's most popular social media platforms.
Union Secures Compensation for Affected Workers
In a silver lining, the CCOO has signed a preliminary agreement with Telus International to ensure that the affected workers receive the highest compensation possible under Spanish law. This move aims to mitigate the impact of the layoffs on the livelihoods of thousands of employees.
