Job Cuts Announced in Barcelona

In a significant blow to the tech workforce in Spain, over 2,000 content moderators for Meta platforms are facing layoffs. This development comes after Telus International, the Canadian company tasked with moderating content on Facebook and Instagram, lost its contract with Meta.

The Impact of Telus International's Contract Loss

Telus International, operating in Spain under the name CCC Barcelona Digital Services since 2018, formally presented a dismissal plan affecting 2,059 workers. The Workers Commissions in Spain (CCOO) highlighted the termination of the agreement between Telus and Meta as the reason behind these layoffs.

Union Secures Preliminary Agreement

Despite the unfortunate news, there's a silver lining. The CCOO has signed a preliminary agreement with Telus International to ensure affected workers receive the highest compensation possible under Spanish law, offering some relief during this challenging time.
