Mass Layoffs Hit Spain: Over 2,000 Meta Content Moderators to Lose Jobs After Contract Loss

Job Cuts Announced in Barcelona

The Workers Commissions in Spain (CCOO) have announced a significant workforce reduction in Barcelona. This comes after Telus International, the Canadian company tasked with moderating content on Meta's platforms, lost its contract with the tech giant. A dismissal plan affecting 2,059 workers was formally presented today.

Background of Telus International in Spain

Operating under the name CCC Barcelona Digital Services since 2018, Telus International is a subsidiary of the Canadian telecom group Telus. The company has been a key player in content moderation for Facebook and Instagram, two of Meta's flagship platforms.

Union's Response and Preliminary Agreement

The CCOO has revealed that the layoffs are a direct consequence of the termination of the agreement between Telus and Meta. In response, the union has secured a preliminary agreement with Telus to ensure affected workers receive the maximum compensation possible under Spanish law.
