Apple Challenges Court Ruling Over App Store Antitrust Violations in Landmark Appeal

Apple Inc. Appeals Against Federal Judge's Decision

Apple Inc. has officially filed an appeal against a U.S. federal judge's ruling that found the tech giant in contempt of a court order aimed at reducing its control over the App Store. The appeal was submitted to the 9th United States Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, challenging the April 30 decision which accused Apple of violating a 2021 injunction from an antitrust case brought by Epic Games.

Allegations of Non-Compliance

US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple intentionally avoided compliance with the court order, thereby restricting developers from directing users to external payment platforms that might offer cheaper alternatives. In a significant move, Judge Rogers also referred Apple and one of its executives to federal prosecutors for potential criminal contempt charges.
