Safety Recall Announcement
Zoox, Inc., a subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc., has announced a recall of 270 of its self-driving vehicles. This decision comes after a note from the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighted potential safety risks.
Understanding the Issue
The recall affects certain Automated Driving Systems (ADS) equipped with software versions released before April 17, 2025. According to the NHTSA, in specific driving scenarios, these vehicles might inaccurately predict the movement of another vehicle approaching slowly and perpendicularly, leading to a potential crash.
Zoox's Response
To address the issue, Zoox has updated the ADS software at no cost to the vehicle owners. This proactive measure follows a recent incident in Las Vegas where a Zoox robotaxi collided with a passenger car, fortunately resulting in no injuries.
