Apple's Strategic Move in India
Apple's AirPods enclosures supplier, Jabil, is set to increase its production footprint in India by establishing a second facility in Tamil Nadu. This development is part of Apple's broader strategy to diversify its supply chain away from China, in response to ongoing trade tensions and global tariff uncertainties.

Details of the Expansion
Currently, Jabil manufactures plastic casings for AirPods at its Pune plant. The new facility in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) is under consideration to further expand these operations. "Jabil is considering Trichy as an AirPods production option," a source revealed, indicating a final decision is expected by June or July.
Strengthening India's Manufacturing Ecosystem
This move aligns with Apple's increased investment in India, leveraging partners like Foxconn and Tata Group, particularly in iPhone manufacturing. "India is slowly getting its end-to-end Apple manufacturing ecosystem together, from assembly to components," noted Prabhu Ram of CyberMedia Research.
Global Implications
With Foxconn's Hyderabad facility already assembling AirPods for export, Jabil's expansion signifies India's growing role in Apple's global supply chain. This strategic shift not only enhances India's manufacturing capabilities but also positions it as a key player in the tech industry's future.
