Bayer AG Announces Strategic Shutdown of Frankfurt Crop Protection Operations Amid Asian Market Pressures

Bayer AG to Close Frankfurt Crop Protection Site by 2028

In a significant move, Bayer AG has announced the shutdown of its crop protection operations in Frankfurt by the end of 2028. This decision is part of a broader restructuring effort within its Crop Science division in Germany, driven by unsustainable price pressures from Asia, increasingly tight regulations, and growing trade barriers.

Commitment to Germany Amid Challenges

Frank Terhorst, the division strategy head, emphasized the company's dedication to Germany but noted the necessity of making difficult decisions to remain competitive. "We are committed to Germany. However, to live up to this commitment in times of considerable challenges, we need to adjust," Terhorst stated. These adjustments are aimed at preserving production facilities in Germany and ensuring the competitive production of products.

Future Plans for the Frankfurt Site

Bayer plans to divest some operations from the Frankfurt site while relocating others to Dormagen, Knapsack, or integrating them into its European network. With approximately 500 jobs currently at the Frankfurt site, Bayer has assured that not all roles will be eliminated, highlighting a thoughtful approach to the restructuring process.
