India's Defence Exports Hit Record High Amidst Global Tensions

In a significant boost to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', India's defence exports have reached an unprecedented Rs 23,622 crore (approximately $2.76 billion) in the financial year 2024-25. This marks a 12.04% growth from the previous year, showcasing the country's growing prowess in the global defence market.

India’s defence exports surge

The success of Operation Sindoor has highlighted the precision of 'Make in India' weapon systems, further emphasizing India's capability to produce high-quality defence equipment. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that India now exports to around 80 countries, with ambitions to reach Rs 50,000 crore in exports by 2029.

Private and Public Sectors Contribute to Growth

The private sector led the charge with exports amounting to Rs 15,233 crore, while Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) contributed Rs 8,389 crore. This represents a 42.85% increase in DPSU exports, indicating strong international demand for Indian defence products.

Policy Reforms Fuel Export Expansion

The government has implemented several policy changes to enhance India's defence export capabilities, including streamlining industrial licensing and extending license validity periods. These efforts have resulted in 1,762 Export Authorisations in FY 2024-25, a 16.92% increase from the previous year.
