Travel Demand to Azerbaijan and Turkey Plummets
NEW DELHI: In a recent development, MakeMyTrip has reported a significant decline in travel demand to Turkey and Azerbaijan. This comes amid growing calls on social media for a boycott against these two countries.
Bookings have seen a sharp decrease of 60% over the past week, while cancellations have unexpectedly surged by 250%, according to the platform.
Indian Travellers Express Strong Sentiments
"Indian travellers have shown strong sentiments over the past week, with a noticeable decrease in bookings for Azerbaijan and Turkey by 60%, and a surge in cancellations by 250% during the same period," a MakeMyTrip spokesperson explained to ANI.
"In solidarity with our nation and out of deep respect for our armed forces, we strongly support this sentiment and advise against all non-essential travel to Azerbaijan and Turkey," the spokesperson added.
Operation Sindoor Sparks Nationwide Boycott Calls
The boycott calls against Turkey and Azerbaijan have gained momentum across India following Operation Sindoor, after these nations were perceived as showing support for Pakistan.
This has led to a widespread sentiment across the country, with many turning to social media to advocate for a travel boycott to these destinations. In response, MakeMyTrip has suspended all promotions and travel offers related to both countries.
"We have discontinued all promotions and offers on our platform to discourage tourism to these two destinations," the MakeMyTrip spokesperson further noted.
