Kerala Tops the Chart in Retail Inflation
According to the latest data released, Kerala has recorded the highest retail inflation rate in India at 5.9% in April, making it the state with the most significant price pressures. Following Kerala, Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir both reported a 4.3% inflation rate.

Telangana Records Lowest Inflation
On the other end of the spectrum, Telangana enjoyed the lowest inflation rate at 1.3%, with Delhi and Jharkhand and Rajasthan not far behind at 1.8% and 2.2%, respectively.
Urban vs. Rural Inflation Rates
Kerala's rural areas were hit the hardest with a 6.5% inflation rate, while urban centers saw a slightly lower rate of 4.9%. Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand also reported significant rural and urban inflation rates, highlighting the widespread nature of price pressures across different regions.
Income Groups Feel the Pinch Differently
An analysis by Crisil reveals that the wealthiest segments of society face a higher inflation burden due to their consumption patterns. Essential items, which constitute a larger portion of lower-income households' baskets, have seen relatively lower inflation rates, marking a shift from previous trends.
