India's Remarkable Growth in Trademark Filings
Reflecting strong business confidence, India has secured the third position globally in trademark filings, with nearly 5.4 lakh new applications in 2024. This achievement narrows the gap with the US, the second-largest filer, which reported a little under 5.7 lakh applications.

China Leads Despite Decline
China continues to dominate the rankings with 68 lakh filings, despite experiencing a steady decline over the past three years.
Increasing Awareness and Investment
The 9.3% growth in India underscores a growing awareness among local businesses about the importance of branding and intellectual property. Robert Reading, head of IP content strategy at Clarivate, highlights this trend as a sign of robust local commercial confidence and investment.
Local Companies Leading the Charge
Leading the pack in trademark registrations are Alkem Labs and ITC, with 4,931 and 4,923 registrations respectively as of January 1, 2025.
Domestic Brands Drive Growth
The surge in filings is largely driven by India's domestic brand sector, which accounts for over 95% of the applications, according to the latest Trademark Filing Trends 2025 report.
