Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Zafrul Aziz recently held a productive video call. Their discussion focused on the ongoing review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA), signaling a renewed commitment to strengthening economic relations.
ASEAN-India Economic Relations to Reach New Heights
Malaysia, as the ASEAN chair for 2025, is at the forefront of efforts to upgrade AITIGA. "Together, let’s elevate ASEAN-India economic relations to new heights," said Zafrul, highlighting the importance of adapting the agreement to current realities.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships
India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, emphasized ASEAN's role as the cornerstone of India’s Act East Policy. The adoption of the Plan of Action 2026-30 marks a significant step forward in the strategic partnership between India and ASEAN.
Boosting Tourism and Connectivity
With 2025 designated as the ASEAN-India Year of Tourism, both regions are set to enhance their people-to-people linkages. Improved air connectivity between the Philippines and India, with only Laos remaining to be connected, underscores the growing ties.
