India Launches Groundbreaking Incentive Scheme Offering Up to Rs 9.6 Lakh for Electric Truck Buyers

New Delhi Introduces PM E-DRIVE Initiative to Boost Electric Truck Adoption

In a significant move towards sustainable freight mobility, Union minister H D Kumaraswamy unveiled a pioneering scheme under the PM E-DRIVE initiative. This program offers substantial incentives for the purchase of electric trucks, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat air pollution.

Government offers up to Rs 9.6 lakh worth of incentives on electric truck purchase

Key Industries to Benefit: Ports, logistics, cement, and steel sectors are identified as primary beneficiaries, with the scheme supporting up to 5,600 electric trucks. A notable focus is on Delhi, where incentives are reserved for approximately 1,100 e-trucks to address the city's air quality concerns.

Environmental Impact: "Diesel trucks, though only 3% of the total vehicle population, contribute to 42% of transport-related greenhouse gas emissions," Kumaraswamy highlighted, emphasizing the scheme's role in promoting cleaner alternatives.

To avail of the incentives, scrapping old polluting trucks is mandatory, aligning with the government's commitment to environmental sustainability.
