Indian Bank's Landmark Initiative for Women's Self-Reliance
In a significant move to bolster financial inclusion and grassroots entrepreneurship, Indian Bank has sanctioned loans totaling Rs 1,011 crore to more than 3,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) across Tamil Nadu.

Strengthening Financial Inclusion
The initiative was highlighted during a Mega Self Help Group Credit Outreach Programme in Madurai, where M Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, emphasized the critical role of accessible capital in livelihood activities. "This effort not only diminishes reliance on informal credit but also fosters inclusion in the formal financial system," Nagaraju stated.
A Step Towards SHG Empowerment
Indian Bank's commitment to SHG empowerment is evident in its support for 5.09 lakh SHGs, impacting over 60 lakh women. With a credit portfolio of Rs 22,224 crore as of March 2025, the bank stands as the fourth-largest public sector bank in SHG financing, commanding over 10% market share.
