Details of the Crash and Preliminary Findings

On June 12, an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London-Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the loss of 270 lives, including 19 on the ground. The preliminary report by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that both fuel switches on the Boeing 787 were moved to 'Cut-off' three seconds after takeoff, cutting fuel supply to the engines. The cockpit voice recording captured confusion between the pilots regarding who initiated the fuel cutoff.

ICPA Condemns Reckless Speculation

The ICPA has expressed deep disturbance over the reckless speculation and media narratives suggesting pilot suicide, stating there is no basis for such claims. The union highlights the rigorous psychological and professional screening pilots undergo, advocating for respect and restraint in public discourse until the official investigation concludes.

Call for Respect and Due Process

The ICPA urges the media and public to await the final report from the AAIB, emphasizing the importance of empathy, respect for due process, and the avoidance of premature conclusions. The association reaffirms its trust in the investigative protocols to uncover the facts methodically and without bias.
