Tesla, the electric car giant led by Elon Musk, has officially marked its presence in India by opening its first showroom in Mumbai's BKC. This move comes after years of anticipation and challenges related to high tariffs and charging infrastructure.

Model Y: Features and Pricing

The Model Y SUV, starting at Rs 61 lakh for the 500km range variant, is now available for bookings with deliveries commencing in October. A long-range version offering 622km will be introduced in January 2026, priced at over Rs 69 lakh. Tesla promises a 'plug and charge experience' with superchargers capable of adding 267km range in just 15 minutes.

Competitive Landscape and Future Plans

Positioned against the BMW iX1 and Mercedes-Benz EQA, Tesla's Model Y boasts a minimalist design, autopilot features, and over-the-air updates. With plans to expand to Delhi and beyond, Tesla is keen on assessing the Indian market's potential without committing to local manufacturing yet.
