Amazon Web Services Faces More Layoffs
In a surprising move, Amazon.com Inc. disclosed on Thursday its decision to eliminate additional positions within its Amazon Web Services (AWS) division. While the exact number of affected employees remains undisclosed, the company emphasized the difficulty of this decision.
Statement from Amazon
"After a comprehensive evaluation of our organizational structure, priorities, and future focus areas, we've arrived at the tough conclusion to reduce roles in specific AWS teams," stated Brad Glasser, an Amazon spokesperson. He assured, "These decisions were not made lightly, and we are dedicated to assisting our employees during this transition period."
Behind the Decision
This announcement follows a concerning trend for AWS, marking its third consecutive quarter of revenue shortfalls in the first trimester of the year. The division reported a 17% increase in sales, amounting to $29.27 billion, which fell below expectations.
