In a bold move, Meta has decided not to participate in the European Union's proposed code of practice for general-purpose artificial intelligence. Joel Kaplan, the company's Chief Global Affairs Officer, voiced concerns over the code introducing measures that exceed the scope of the bloc's AI laws and adding legal uncertainties for developers.

Kaplan expressed his disapproval through a LinkedIn post, stating, "Europe is heading down the wrong path on AI." He highlighted the code's potential to create legal ambiguities and its overreach beyond the AI Act's intended boundaries.

EU's AI Code of Practice Unveiled

The European Commission recently released the final draft of the AI code, offering model suppliers the choice to sign. The document outlines guidelines on copyright, safety, security, and transparency, aiming to facilitate compliance with the EU's comprehensive AI legislation.
