India's Millet Standards Earn Global Praise

India's leadership in food safety and standard-setting was prominently recognized at the 88th Executive Committee meeting of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CCEXEC88) in Rome. The international community lauded India's initiative in developing group standards for whole millet grains, a project chaired by India in collaboration with Mali, Nigeria, and Senegal.

Advancing New International Standards

The meeting also saw India's efforts in advancing new international standards for fresh dates and co-chairing initiatives for fresh turmeric and broccoli standards. These draft standards are slated for review at the 48th CAC session in November 2025.

Strategic Contributions and Regional Impact

India played a key role in shaping the Codex Strategic Plan 2026–2031, emphasizing SMART Key Performance Indicators for accountability. Additionally, India's capacity-building efforts in Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka were highlighted, urging underrepresented member states to leverage the Codex Trust Fund for mentorship and food safety system strengthening.
