Japanese automotive giant Honda has set its sights on capturing a 30% share of India's two-wheeler market by 2030. Tsutsumu Otani, President of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), emphasized India's pivotal role in the company's growth strategy.

EV push: Honda eyes 30% share in Indian two-wheeler market by 2030; sees big potential among female buyers

Focusing on Female Consumers

With female consumers currently accounting for only 10% of two-wheeler sales in India, Honda sees a significant growth opportunity. "The potential for two-wheeler sales among female customers is huge," Otani stated, highlighting the untapped market segment.

Challenges and Opportunities in the EV Sector

While optimistic about the shift to electric vehicles (EVs), Otani pointed out infrastructure challenges, including charging stations and electricity supply. Honda plans to introduce 30 electric models by 2030, aiming for annual sales of 4 million electric units worldwide.

Expanding Global and Local Presence

Honda aims to increase global motorcycle sales to 60 million units by 2030. In India, the company plans to establish a dedicated EV production plant by 2028, though details remain under wraps. HMSI sold 47,89,283 units in FY25, marking a significant increase from the previous year.
