Air India Flight Encounters Runway Excursion in Mumbai

An Air India Airbus A320, operating from Kochi to Mumbai, momentarily veered off the runway while landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in heavy rain on Monday morning. Fortunately, the aircraft quickly exited the unpaved area near the runway without getting stuck, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew onboard flight AI 2744.

Runway Damage and Operational Adjustments

The incident caused minor damages to the primary runway (09/27), prompting the airport authorities to activate the secondary runway (14/32) to maintain operational continuity. Mumbai Airport spokesperson confirmed the immediate activation of emergency response teams to manage the situation, reiterating that safety remains their highest priority.

Statement from Mumbai Airport

"An incoming aircraft from Kochi experienced a runway excursion at CSMIA, Mumbai at 09.27 hours on 21 July 2025. All passengers and crew are safe, and operations continue smoothly on the secondary runway," the spokesperson stated.
