Exclusive: Huawei's Foldable Phone Fails Thinness Claim, Sparks Consumer Debate

Thickness Controversy Surrounding Huawei's Foldable Phone

In a recent revelation, Huawei's foldable phone, once advertised as "the thinnest in the world," has been found to be up to 0.6mm thicker than its promotional claims. This discrepancy raises questions about the accuracy of product measurements in advertising.

Comparative Analysis by KCEA

The Korean Consumer-centered Enterprise Association (KCEA) conducted thickness measurements on five leading foldable smartphones, including models from Samsung Electronics, Honor, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Huawei. The findings highlighted significant variances between advertised and actual thicknesses.

Detailed Findings

Notably, Huawei’s Mate X6 showed the largest discrepancy, measuring 10.47mm—0.62mm thicker than its official specification. In contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 was the only device that measured thinner than its official specs.

Industry Insights

Industry experts suggest that some manufacturers might exclude films and cameras from their thickness measurements. Honor explicitly states on its website that its measurements are based on "laboratory standards" and exclude certain components.

The KCEA emphasized that their measurements reflect the actual usage scenario of the devices, including protective films but excluding camera protrusions.
