NCRTC's Green Initiative: Sourcing Power Via Exchange to Slash Ghaziabad Station's Energy Bill by Rs 1 Crore Annually

NCRTC Embraces Green Energy for Ghaziabad Station

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has taken a significant step towards sustainability by initiating the procurement of electricity through the power exchange for its Receiving Sub-Station (RSS) in Ghaziabad. This strategic move aims to reduce operational costs and promote the use of green energy.

Financial and Environmental Benefits

By shifting to more cost-effective and cleaner power sources, NCRTC anticipates saving approximately Rs 1 crore annually from just one drawl point in its inaugural year. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to mitigate the corporation's substantial energy expenses, which currently account for 30–35% of its total operational costs.

Partnerships and Future Plans

To facilitate this transition, NCRTC has forged agreements with Power Trading Corporation (PTC India Ltd) and Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL). The corporation also aims to source at least 15% of its annual power requirement from green energy through the exchange model, marking a pivotal step towards its sustainability goals.

Expansion Across the Corridor

The initiative is being rolled out in phases, starting with operational segments of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. Plans are underway to extend this model to other drawl points in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as additional sections become operational, with full commissioning expected later this year.
