Air India Introduces Online Yoga for Stressed Crew Amid Calls for Real Solutions to Aviation Stress

Online Yoga Initiative Launched by Air India

In response to the psychological stress faced by crew members following the June 12 Ahmedabad crash, Air India has initiated online yoga classes. This move comes after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) advised major carriers to conduct post-trauma mental health workshops. A noticeable increase in sick leaves among pilots was reported post-incident.

Air India starts online yoga for stressed crew members; pilots say address real issues

Pilots Demand Concrete Actions

Despite the wellness initiatives, pilots argue that Air India needs to address core issues like the erratic rostering system via an app, which disrupts personal planning and increases stress. The demand for a return to emailed printed rosters is growing among the crew.

Regulatory Concerns and Crew Welfare

The DGCA has previously warned against pressuring crew to work when unfit, highlighting the link between mental health and flight safety. However, issues like standby duties and pay cuts continue to exacerbate stress among Air India pilots, calling for more substantial support beyond digital solutions.
