Major Boost for PMKSY
The Union Cabinet has greenlit a significant expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), with a total outlay of Rs 6,520 crore. This includes an additional Rs 1,920 crore, aimed at enhancing food processing infrastructure across India.

Infrastructure Development
Part of the funding, Rs 1,000 crore, is dedicated to establishing 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 NABL-accredited food testing laboratories. These initiatives are expected to significantly reduce post-harvest losses and ensure food safety standards.
Expected Outcomes
The food irradiation units alone are projected to create a preservation capacity of 20 to 30 Lakh Metric Tonnes annually. Meanwhile, the new labs will play a crucial role in maintaining food safety and quality assurance.
Implementation Strategy
The schemes will follow a demand-driven approach, with projects being approved based on Expressions of Interest (EOI) and strict eligibility criteria.
