Hindustan Zinc and Essar's GreenLine Forge Rs 400 Crore Pact to Revolutionize Logistics with Green Energy

Revolutionizing Logistics with Green Energy

In a landmark deal, Hindustan Zinc Ltd has partnered with Essar group’s GreenLine Mobility Solutions, investing Rs 400 crore to decarbonize its logistics network. This initiative introduces a fleet of electric vehicles (EV) and trucks powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking a significant step towards sustainable industrial operations.

Electric and LNG Trucks: The Future of Transport

The agreement includes the deployment of 100 electric trucks to replace diesel vehicles for transporting concentrate between mines and smelters. Complementing this, a battery swapping infrastructure with three high-capacity stations will ensure uninterrupted operations. Furthermore, 100 LNG trucks will augment the fleet for long-haul finished goods transport, doubling the current low-carbon vehicle count.

Environmental Impact and Cost Efficiency

This large-scale green transition is projected to reduce approximately 236 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions monthly, akin to planting 12,000 trees. Annually, it aims to cut about 150,000 tonnes of Scope 3 emissions, propelling Hindustan Zinc towards its 2050 net-zero goal and bolstering India's green growth aspirations.

A Model for Industrial Decarbonization

GreenLine CEO Anand Mimani highlighted the collaboration as a scalable model for industrial decarbonization across sectors. With over 650 LNG trucks already in operation, covering more than 50 million kilometers and reducing over 14,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, GreenLine is at the forefront of sustainable logistics. The company envisions expanding its clean truck fleet to over 10,000, supported by a nationwide network of LNG refueling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping facilities.
