Investigation Launched Into UnitedHealth's Nursing Home Policies

Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden have initiated a probe into UnitedHealth Group Inc., following alarming reports of the healthcare behemoth allegedly inflating revenues by pressuring nursing homes to cut healthcare spending for residents under its care.
Concerns Over Health and Safety Metrics
The senators expressed their concerns in a letter dated August 6 to UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley, highlighting the company's programs aimed at reducing hospitalizations and setting advance directives. They argued that these initiatives, while beneficial in theory, are based on metrics that may not sufficiently safeguard resident health and safety.
Deadline for Disclosure
UnitedHealth has been given until September 8 to provide Congress with detailed information about its incentive programs, as the investigation seeks to ensure transparency and accountability in the healthcare sector.
