Tata Group's Strategic Move in Hospitality Sector
MUMBAI: In a significant expansion of its hospitality portfolio, The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), a flagship of the Tata Group, is poised to acquire a 51% stake in the midscale hotel chain Clarks. This strategic acquisition, valued at Rs 204 crore, marks a bold step by IHCL to deepen its footprint in India's burgeoning tourism and business travel market.

Expanding Portfolio and Market Reach
The deal includes the purchase of 51% stakes in both ANK Hotels and Pride Hospitality, adding a total of 135 properties to IHCL's already impressive portfolio. Furthermore, IHCL has entered into a distribution and marketing agreement with Brij Hospitality, enhancing its presence in the midscale sector with an additional 19 hotels under the Brij brand.
A Vision for Growth
This acquisition aligns with IHCL's asset-light growth strategy, enabling the company to cater more effectively to the diverse demands of the Indian market. The move is part of a broader trend within the Tata Group, following recent international acquisitions by sister companies Tata Motors and Titan.

ANK Hotels, with its headquarters in Lucknow, operates 111 hotels across India and Sri Lanka under various Clarks brands. Pride Hospitality, based in Jaipur, manages 24 hotels in India. IHCL, established in 1899, boasts a portfolio of 392 hotels worldwide, with the iconic Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai being its first.
Looking Ahead
