South Korea Hosts Seminar on EU's New Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to Support Exporters

South Korea's Response to EUDR

In preparation for the enforcement of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), South Korea has organized a seminar aimed at supporting domestic timber and timber product exporters. The seminar, hosted by the Korea International Trade Association (KOTRA), brought together approximately 50 participants, including related associations, organizations, and EU export businesses.

Understanding EUDR

The EUDR is a legal framework introduced by the EU to combat deforestation and biodiversity loss caused by the production of certain commodities. It mandates that businesses exporting seven specified commodities, including cocoa, coffee, and timber, to the EU must prove that their products do not contribute to deforestation or forest degradation.

Support for Exporters

The seminar provided essential information and guidelines for businesses to comply with the EUDR, including the latest updates and practical advice for preparation. KOTRA also introduced customized support services for exporters to navigate the new environmental regulations successfully.

Commitment to Sustainable Trade

"Our goal is to ensure that Korean businesses can proactively respond to the EUDR, reinforcing sustainable competitiveness," stated an official from the Korea Forest Service. The seminar underscored the importance of adapting to new environmental standards and offered solutions to potential challenges in the export process.
