India's Green Energy Leap
The Union government has approved a massive Rs 8,000 crore investment in Arunachal Pradesh, marking a significant step forward for the state's power and infrastructure sector. The 700 MW Tato-II Hydro-Electric Project in the Shi Yomi district, sanctioned by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to transform the region.

Project Highlights
Estimated to be completed in 72 months at a cost of Rs 8,146.21 crore, the project will provide Arunachal Pradesh with 12% free power and an additional 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). With an installed capacity of 700 MW (4 x 175 MW), it's expected to generate 2,738.06 million units of energy, bolstering the state's electricity supply and balancing the national grid.
Infrastructure and Development
The initiative, a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, includes Rs 458.79 crore in budgetary support for roads, bridges, and transmission lines. Additionally, Rs 436.13 crore will assist the state's equity share, promising significant infrastructure improvement and socio-economic development.
Community Benefits
Local communities will see 32.88 kilometres of new roads and bridges, alongside developments in hospitals, schools, marketplaces, and playgrounds, funded by Rs 20 crore from project funds. Aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the project offers job opportunities and benefits to local suppliers and MSMEs, fostering direct and indirect employment.
