Expanding Corning's Footprint in India

Corning is further solidifying its presence in India with plans to commence production of finished cover glass for smartphones by December this year. This venture, a Rs 1,000 crore joint effort with Optiemus, aims to supply major players like Apple and Samsung directly from India, reducing reliance on imports.

Market Potential and Quality Standards

The Indian market for tempered glass screen protectors is burgeoning, with annual sales projected at 400 million pieces, valued at Rs 20,000 crore. Amid concerns over the import of low-quality products, the Indian government is implementing BIS standards to ensure quality and promote local production.

Future Prospects

Ashok Gupta of Optiemus revealed plans to initially cater to the domestic market before expanding exports to the Middle East and Europe. Sudhir Pillai of Corning emphasized the partnership's role in meeting India's growing demand for high-quality screen protectors, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
