PM Modi's Ambitious Energy Independence Plan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid out an ambitious plan to reduce India's reliance on imported oil and gas, focusing on nuclear power expansion and deep-sea oil exploration. Speaking on India's 79th Independence Day, Modi emphasized the critical importance of energy self-reliance for the nation's future.

Nuclear Energy and Offshore Exploration
Modi announced rapid progress on 10 new nuclear reactors, aiming to increase India's nuclear energy capacity tenfold by 2047. He also introduced the National Deep Water Exploration Mission, dubbed a modern-day 'Samudra Manthan', to boost domestic oil and gas production.
Renewable Energy and Technological Sovereignty
Highlighting India's renewable energy achievements, Modi noted a 30-fold increase in solar capacity over the past 11 years. He called for indigenous technology development in sectors ranging from semiconductor chips to advanced defense systems, underscoring the need for technological sovereignty.
"To build a truly self-reliant India, we must achieve energy independence," Modi declared, positioning this strategy as key to insulating India from global market volatility and geopolitical pressures.
