India's Electronics Export Milestone
India's electronics exports have achieved a significant milestone, with a remarkable 47% increase in the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26. Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal shared on social media platform X that exports reached $12.4 billion, showcasing a substantial growth compared to the same period in 2024-25.
"Make In India" Success Story
Goyal highlighted the success of the 'Make In India' initiative, which has propelled the electronics production from $31 billion to $133 billion over a decade starting from 2014-15. This initiative has not only boosted exports but also transformed India from a mobile importer to the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer.

From Import Dependency to Self-Reliance
The journey from just two mobile manufacturing units in 2014 to over 300 today underscores India's strides towards self-reliance. The electronics sector has become a major employment generator, with products like solar modules, networking devices, and electronic parts playing a pivotal role in strengthening exports.
Exponential Growth in Mobile Manufacturing
The transformation in mobile phone manufacturing is particularly striking, with domestic production accounting for 99.2% of all mobile phones sold in the country, a leap from 26% in 2014-15. The value of mobile phone manufacturing has soared from Rs 18,900 crore in FY14 to an impressive Rs 4,22,000 crore in FY24.
