IndianOil's Panipat Refinery Achieves Global Milestone
IndianOil's Panipat refinery has marked a significant achievement by receiving international certification to transform used cooking oil into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This pioneering step, certified under the ICAO’s ISCC CORSIA, positions IndianOil as the sole company in India to attain such recognition.

Setting the Stage for Sustainable Aviation
With a target to produce 35,000 tonnes of SAF annually by year-end, the Panipat refinery is set to meet India's requirement of blending 1% SAF with conventional jet fuel by 2027. This initiative aligns with government regulations mandating international airlines to use SAF-blended aviation turbine fuel, paving the way for greener skies.
Overcoming Challenges in Collection
The refinery's success hinges on the efficient collection of used cooking oil from various sources, including hotels and restaurants. While large establishments like Haldiram are already on board, the challenge lies in extending this collection network to smaller users and households.
Beyond Aviation: IndianOil's Broader Green Initiatives
IndianOil is not stopping at SAF. The company has also commissioned a Butyl Acrylate unit in Gujarat, reducing India's dependency on imports for paint manufacturing raw materials. Furthermore, plans are underway to construct India's largest green hydrogen facility at Panipat, aiming to replace grey hydrogen and significantly cut down the carbon footprint of refinery operations.
IndianOil's commitment to innovation and sustainability sets a benchmark for the industry, driving India closer to its 2070 net-zero target.
