In a significant development, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. (Foxconn) Chairman Young Liu has confirmed a strategic partnership with SoftBank Group Corp. This collaboration is centered around OpenAI Inc.'s ambitious Stargate project, marking a pivotal moment in AI infrastructure development.

Ohio: The Chosen Hub

The project will leverage Foxconn's former electric vehicle factory in Lordstown, Ohio, transforming it into a state-of-the-art data center equipment manufacturing site. SoftBank's contribution includes providing the necessary site and equipment, underscoring the project's scale and importance.

Preparations Underway

Liu revealed that preparatory efforts for the Stargate project commenced over six months ago, emphasizing the critical factors of power, venue, and timing. "Ohio's suitability, coupled with SoftBank's shared vision, makes it the ideal location for this venture," Liu stated.

A Vision Backed by Heavy Investment

Announced by former United States President Donald Trump in January, the Stargate project is a joint venture involving SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle Corp., with projected investments soaring up to $500 billion, setting a new benchmark in AI infrastructure projects.
