E-commerce Giants Gear Up for Festive Season Demand
In anticipation of a surge in orders during the upcoming festive season, Amazon India and Flipkart are significantly expanding their workforce. Each company plans to hire approximately 1.5 lakh temporary staff to manage the increased workload.

Amazon's Seasonal Hiring Initiative
Amazon has announced the creation of over 1.5 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its operations network. This includes roles in fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, and last-mile delivery. Notably, the hires encompass thousands of women and more than 2,000 persons with disabilities, with most already integrated into operations. This expansion aims to support Amazon's 16 lakh sellers during the peak shopping period.
Flipkart's Competitive Edge
Similarly, Flipkart is expected to bolster its workforce by about 1.5 lakh temporary employees, enhancing its supply chain strength to around 3 lakh during the festival season. A source highlighted the strategic advantage of such hiring, especially in light of GST reforms and the expected uptick in discretionary spending.
Both e-commerce leaders had previously hired between 1 to 1.5 lakh temporary staff during the 2024 festival sales, underscoring the competitive nature of the festive season market.
