US Crude Oil Inventories See Slight Increase Amid Refinery Activity Surge

Weekly Crude Inventory Update

In a recent report by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), it was revealed that commercial crude oil inventories in the United States, excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, experienced a modest increase of 0.2 million barrels. This brings the total to 443.1 million barrels for the week ending April 18.

Refinery Operations and Production

Refineries across the country have been operating at 88.1% of their capacity, with inputs averaging 15.9 million barrels per day—a significant jump of 326,000 barrels from the previous week. Gasoline production also saw an uptick, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.

Import and Inventory Trends

Crude oil imports, however, took a downturn, decreasing by 412,000 barrels per day to an average of 5.6 million barrels per day. Meanwhile, total commercial petroleum inventories witnessed a decline of 0.7 million barrels.
