March Sees a Surge in US Personal Spending: A 0.7% Increase Signals Economic Momentum

US Personal Spending Rises in March

In a recent report by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, it was revealed that personal consumption expenditures (PCE) in the United States saw a significant increase of $134.5 billion or 0.7% in March compared to the previous month. This uptick is a positive indicator of the country's economic health.

Price Index and Income Growth

The PCE price index experienced a slight contraction of 0.1% in March, with a notable 2.3% decrease from the same month last year. However, when excluding the volatile food and energy sectors, the PCE showed a modest 0.1% increase.

On the income front, personal income grew by $116.8 billion or 0.5%, while disposable personal income (DPI) also saw an increase of $102.0 billion or 0.5%, reflecting a steady growth in Americans' earning power.
