Germany's Inflation Eases in April

The annual inflation rate in Germany showed a slight decrease to 2.1% in April, down from 2.2% in March, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) in its preliminary findings this Wednesday. On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced a 0.4% increase.

Core Inflation and Sector-Specific Trends

Excluding the volatile sectors of food and energy, the core inflation rate remained higher at 2.9%. Notably, food prices saw a year-on-year increase of 2.8%, whereas energy prices dropped significantly by 5.4%.

Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which allows for comparison across EU countries, rose by 2.2% annually and 0.5% month-on-month.
