US Personal Spending Climbs in March
In a recent report by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, personal consumption expenditures (PCE) in the United States saw a significant rise of $134.5 billion or 0.7% in March compared to the previous month. This uptick reflects the enduring strength of consumer spending amidst fluctuating economic conditions.
Price Index and Income Trends
The PCE price index experienced a slight contraction of 0.1% in March, with a notable 2.3% decrease from the same month last year. However, excluding the volatile food and energy sectors, the index edged up by 0.1%, indicating underlying stability.
On the income front, personal income grew by $116.8 billion or 0.5%, while disposable personal income (DPI) increased by $102.0 billion, also marking a 0.5% rise. These figures underscore the gradual improvement in Americans' financial well-being.
