US Personal Spending Climbs in March

In a revealing update from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, personal consumption expenditures (PCE) witnessed a notable increase of $134.5 billion, marking a 0.7% rise month-over-month in March.

Price Index and Income Trends

The PCE price index experienced a slight contraction of 0.1% in March, alongside a significant 2.3% drop compared to the same month last year. Excluding the volatile food and energy sectors, the PCE saw a modest 0.1% increase.

On the income front, personal income grew by $116.8 billion, a 0.5% increase, with disposable personal income (DPI) also rising by $102.0 billion, reflecting a similar 0.5% growth.
