The US Chamber of Commerce has made a pressing appeal to the Trump administration, urging the swift establishment of a tariff exclusion process. This move is aimed at safeguarding small businesses from potential irreparable harm and preventing a looming recession.

Immediate Measures Required

In a detailed letter, Suzanne Clark, the Chamber's CEO, emphasized the urgency of the situation. "We request the administration to act immediately to protect America's small businesses and avert a recession," Clark stated. The letter was addressed to key figures including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

Concerns Over Timing

The Chamber expressed deep concerns that even a short delay in reaching agreements could have devastating effects on small enterprises. "Many small businesses will suffer irreparable harm if action is not taken promptly," the letter warned, highlighting the critical need for a tariff flexibility approach during ongoing negotiations.
