Maharashtra Revolutionizes Property Registration: Intra-District Freedom Now a Reality

Maharashtra's New Property Registration Freedom

In a groundbreaking move, Maharashtra has introduced the 'One State, One Registration' initiative, allowing citizens to register property documents at any sub-registrar office within their district, irrespective of the property's location. This initiative, launched statewide on May 1, aims to simplify and make property registration more accessible to all.

Intra-district property registration now allowed from any sub-registrar office

From Pilot to Statewide Implementation

Following its successful pilot in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban, covering 42 offices, the program has now been expanded to all 519 sub-registrar offices across Maharashtra. This expansion removes previous jurisdictional restrictions, enabling a person in the city to register rural property at the city’s sub-registrar office and vice versa.

Future Plans: Inter-District Registration

The department is not stopping here. Plans are underway to launch inter-district registration, allowing properties in one district to be registered at offices in another. "We are currently solving some technical issues and expect to introduce this feature in the coming months," an official shared.

Digital Advancements: Faceless Deed Registration

Alongside, the Faceless Deed Registration System, initially launched in Pune Rural for Tenancy Agreement 2.0, now extends to Mumbai City and Suburban districts. The introduction of Isarita 2.0 supports online registration of General Power of Attorney and Adoption Deeds, eliminating the need for office visits. "This digital option helps citizens save time and avoids long queues at registration offices," stated Ravindra Binwade, Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps.

Support and Expansion

DIG (IT) Abhay Mohite highlighted the establishment of helplines to assist citizens with the new systems, emphasizing the state's commitment to digital governance and efficient public service.
