Bill Ackman's Call for a Pause on China Tariffs
Renowned billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has once again urged for a temporary suspension of new actions towards China. Speaking on Monday, Ackman highlighted the escalating tensions over potential tariff increases and the need for a strategic pause.
The Rationale Behind the Proposal
"The right thing to do, in my view, is we pause on China. Let’s give it a little more time. Maybe it's 180 days because we're going to be busy here," Ackman shared with CNBC. He cautioned that abrupt moves could destabilize the U.S. economy and adversely affect small businesses.
China's Incentive to Negotiate
"Because of the shock of 145% of the potential for high tariffs… every company that's producing in China and selling to the US is moving their supply chains elsewhere," Ackman explained. This shift, according to him, leaves China "highly incentivized" to reach a deal.
