Switzerland's Unemployment Holds Steady at 2.8% in April, Youth Figures Show Slight Improvement

Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

According to the latest report from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Switzerland's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 2.8% in April, mirroring March's figures and aligning with market expectations.

Rise in Unemployed Individuals

The report detailed a slight increase in the number of unemployed individuals, totaling 130,223 in April. This marks a 1.4% rise from March, with an additional 1,849 people without jobs. Compared to April 2024, there was a significant 21.6% jump, equating to 23,144 more unemployed individuals.

Youth Unemployment Sees a Dip

On a brighter note, the youth unemployment rate experienced a minor decrease, dropping by 0.1 percentage points to 2.5%. This translates to 11,118 young individuals seeking employment, showing a slight improvement from the previous month.

Job Availability Declines

The number of job openings in Switzerland also saw a reduction, with 40,887 positions available in April. This represents a decrease of 1,643 jobs compared to March, indicating a tighter job market.
