Switzerland's Unemployment Rate Holds Steady at 2.8% in April Amid Economic Challenges

Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Switzerland was reported at 2.8% in April, mirroring March's figures and aligning with preliminary estimates, as disclosed by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Rise in Unemployed Individuals

With 130,223 people unemployed, there was a slight increase of 1,849 individuals (1.4%) from March. A more significant year-over-year comparison shows a 21.6% surge, adding 23,144 people to the unemployment rolls since April 2024.

Youth Unemployment Shows Slight Improvement

The youth unemployment rate experienced a minor decline, dropping by 0.1 percentage points to 2.5%, which translates to 11,118 young individuals without employment.

Job Availability Declines

April saw a reduction in job openings, with 40,887 positions available, marking a decrease of 1,643 compared to the previous month.
